How it all began

Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, I ,Tyler Shillington, have been coaching since 15 years old when I coached my school’s senior girls’ volleyball team.  I then went on to coach at the Ontario Summer Games and continued coaching throughout university.

Having grown up playing volleyball, fastball, and basketball, I saw my athletic career come to an end from shoulder problems that no one was able to help with.  The desire to coach and having been frustrated with the industry led to the pursuit of a Bachelors of Science in Kinesioloy from Dalhousie University.  It was here in a first year class that the first version of Performance Inspired Training took place.

Upon graduation I realised that I could help people through strength and conditioning rather than first phase rehabilitation.  Through proper strength and conditioning I am able to prevent as well as rehabilitate injuries.  Not long after being in physiotherapy clinics, athletic therapy clinics and training facilities I realised that the majority of the industry was more about "it needs to be fun" or "who has the coolest, new equipment" and this frustrated me.

In 2012 the name and concept started to take form mentally and on paper.  It was at this point that I realized that some day I would have my own training place with the sole focus being on performance.   Training needed to shift back to making the important thing the important thing - the end goal and the best way to get to it.  With a 36 hour drive across Canada with my Dad in a packed up Nissan Sentra, I am now in Calgary, Alberta and the thoughts and ideas have turned into a reality.

While weights, machines, other equipment, and having fun is important, I am a firm believer that none of that matters if you aren't focused on achieving your desired results.  PIT looks to find the balance between enjoyment, fun, and PERFORMANCE.

I continue to look forward to each day when I get to help someone get closer to their life goals.

Cheers,

Tyler Shillington
